Milk Thistle is one of the most popular liver tonic herbin Europe. It grows in dry, rocky soils throughout southern and western Europe and in some parts of the United-States.
Its branched stem grows 1 to 3 feet high with dark green, shiny leaves. Large, solitary, purple flower heads covered in spines appear from June to August.
Milk Thistle contains a flavonoid called silymarin that helps fight free radical damage, and exerts a protective effect on the liver. The liver plays a critical role in maintaining good health. It also detoxifies poisons that enter our body, such as nicotine, alcohol and other pollutants.
